I know it might sound odd, but all my life I wanted to ride a horse. Now, at the age of 24, I finally fulfilled my life long dream.

I visited a few friends up at Bemijidi Minnesota. They are my great and trusted friends as well as good mentors. I used to baby sit their little girls who I pretty much love like little sisters (they are now teenagers and making me feel old. I did not give them permission to grow up.).

On my last day there they showed me their horses. I got to ride their calmest, but also stubborn, male horse named Reno.

It was, it was simply awesome.

DNA computer report

The DNA computers report was one of my senior projects. Though it was only five pages long (double spaced) it still got a A. I love computer science. In our defense, we regularly have to write programs that print out to ten to twenty pages long.

I spent over twenty dollars on a IEEE to get an article for this report. But that membership wasn't good enough for me to obtain that report so my sources ended up being sites like who it words and such. This also stopped me from writing a longer article, but I still got an A in the class so I shouldn't complain.

An interesting note is that I hid some of my creation views in the report but calling DNA designed, but that could be taken either way.

I also wanted end the paper saying that since DNA computers can do so much more we could finally build a computer AI that would actually want to destroy mankind. It's that what we always wanted? I decided not to put that in because it might be pushing it.

DNA Computers, Logic Gate’s Future?

Logic gates are a large and vital part of the foundation on how a computer works. It makes the commands that are give to our systems and the processes of our programs possible by passing and converting binary coding as the coding passes through the computer. It is an important part of all the computer’s functions. Technology is always trying to create these logic gates smaller and smaller and to work faster and faster. As our need for improvement continues, our technology is bound to change from one form to another. Just as this level of microprocessors was unthinkable and science fiction fifty years ago, the processors for our own computer science future might be drastically different.

Our current logic gates are run on silicon transistors and other circuit gates. These logic gates will take in certain inputs and convert then into the needed outputs of the function. For more than forty years these silicon microprocessors have made our computers possible. Today microprocessors, which run with these transistors, are improving at a high rate. More and more electrical devices are placed into smaller and smaller processors. In 1965, a man named Gordon Moore predicted that the number of electrical devices will double every two years. Later on, Moore’s law was termed for the doubling of these electrical devices every eighteen mouths. Though this has remained mainly true to date, silicon microprocessors have a limit. They can only become so small and fast. Since the speed and compactness is based on the limitations of silicon, it was been said that this doubling of microprocessors will reach it’s end. (Bonsor, pg 2, 2000)

Scientists are searching for the next material to replace silicon microprocessors so that our improvement of better computers can continue when our current processors reach their limit. One very promising tool might be DNA. Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA, are the building blocks of our Genes and are found in all living material. DNA works with the storing and passing of information, much in the same way of a computer hard drive. (Bonser, pg 1, 2000) In nature these ‘computers’ run in every living thing. Since they already perform in the same manner of a computer, scientist have found a way to manipulate DNA to work like a logic gate. The current DNA logic gate computer build by humans resemble test tubes rather then the computers we now know. (Lovgren, pg 1, 2003) Rather then sending an electrical output like silicon logic gates, DNA logic gates rely on DNA strain outputs and enzymes. The first DNA logic gates were developed in the University of Rochester. (Bonser, pg 2, 2000) As our knowledge of DNA improves, our ability to manipulate it and our usage of it increases. DNA is small, cheap, and powerful and studies are currently being done to use DNA logic games to build DNA computers.

In 1994, Leonard Adleman, a scientist from the University of Southern California, introduced the idea of using DNA to solve complex mathematic problem. He is known as the father of DNA computers. Adleman wrote a science article on how DNA can be used to solve the Hamilton problem, aka, the traveling salesman problem. The traveling salesman problems is to find the shortest path to a number of cities while only traveling to each city once. In the article he wrote that each DNA was used to represent one of the cities with a four character code to represent each adjacencies and weights. These DNA’s are put in a test tube and strand together. These strands represent the possible answers. As the chemical reaction starts in the test tube, the wrong answers would dissolve and only the right answers will remain. (Bonser, pg 2. 2000)

To better understand where DNA is going, one could look at what computer accomplishments were done in the past and compare them to what is being done with DNA computers today. One great example is the game Noughts and Crosses, or Tic-Tac-Toe. Tic-Tac-Toe is a well known game with a three by three grid where players attempt to place three in a straight line first. One not so known ‘break through’ of computers was, as some people put it, the first computer game Noughts and Crosses.

The computer game Noughts and Crosses was first implanted by A. S. Douglas in 1952 at the university of Cambridge in the United Kindom. The game was made on one of the first programmable computers called the EDSAC. It was a vacuum tube computers that had 32 mercury delay lines, each storing 16 words of 32 bits. EDSAC had 600 instructions. Because computers were so rare at the time, everything that was programmed on EDSAC could only be run at that university. (Winter, 2008)

Douglas was working on his PhD dissertation on Human and computer interaction. So he programmed a game that would pit a person against a computer in a game of Tic-Tac-Toe. The system would let the user pick who would go first then use a telephone dialer for each move the user can make. This predates most every other computer game. (Winter, 2008)

A wonderful piece of computer science history but what does that really have to do with DNA computers? Well Douglas’s game was the first of many. It was a clear sign on how far computer technology was coming and a sign that it can do in the future. In the same way DNA computers have proven they have gotten that far and serious implementations can be used for future use. In 2003 a DNA computer was built that was unbeatable at a game of Noughts and Crosses.
The new Tic-Tac-Toe game was created on a DNA computer called the MAYA. It was invented by Milan Stojanovic who was from Columbia University in New York and Darko Stefanovic who was from University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The ‘computer’ resembled more of a laboratory dish table yet working with DNA and Enzyme’s chemical reactions, it works and calculate just like a computer. The end result was a three by three array well of laboratory dishes. Each well contains complicated chemicals and DNAs which give off chemical reactions to all other wells. The players create their moves by pouring different chemical into the mixture. The wells will light up, or glow, accordingly. After the user’s well glows, the chemical reaction will cause the right well to glow the computer‘s color. (Pearson, 2003)

One hundred tested games were played on the MAYA system and the computer never lost any of them. It would either win or tie. (Pearson, 2003) Though it works flawlessly, the problem with the computer is that it needs human help to pour in the right chemicals into the mixture. That person must know exactly what he/she is doing and what chemicals to use. That may seem like a big problem but many of the first computers needed the same amount of help, only without complicated chemicals. This is one example of DNA computer application. Like the passing of a torch, as Douglas’s program was a foreshadow of things to come, the MAYA computer might be a sign of DNA computers to come.

DNA computers are still very new and its applications are still underdeveloped, but there are some real benefits to using them. These benefits drive scientist into further study in this field. Since this planet is full of organic life, there is a huge supply of DNA available. This supply is cheap, easy to get, and can be gathered without harming the environment or mankind. Our current microprocessors contain many toxic materials which later on become toxic waste, but DNA is a very clean and environmentally friendly metrical. Also DNA computers are much smaller then any silicon based computers that are used today. (Bonser, pg 3, 2003)

Having learnt much over the years, computer and genetic scientists speculated the great improvement DNA will give computers. A trillion bio-computers could fit inside a single drop of water and would be more powerful than any supercomputer ever built. Just one pound of DNA has the ability to hold more data then all electrical devices combined. To get a finer tuned comparison, a space of one cube centimeter could hold ten trillion DNA molecules. It would store up to 10 terabytes of data and could do 10 trillion calculates at a time. (Lovgren, pg 1, 2003; Bonser, pg 3, 2003)

Sound unbelievable? Yet DNA is just that well designed. Mankind has only been working on computers for sixty plus years. The DNA in our very own cells are much more powerful and complicated then anything humans have invented.

DNA can also run calculation parallel to each other. This is a feat that our current electrical based computers cannot accomplish. Since our current computers can only do one task at a time, what would take it years to calculate would take the DNA computer hours. (Bonser, pg 3, 2003) Since DNA works parallel it could perform tasks and solve problems that our current computer can not. It would also be better for solving ‘fuzzy’ logic problems. (Lovgren, pg 1 & 2, 2003)

DNA computer are years away from applying these benefits but progress is being made at a steady pace. Like the very first computers, DNA computers will probably be available for governments and large businesses before they reach the public. (Bonser, pg 3, 2003)

In conclusion, computer science has always been a fast changing field. If computer chips wish to continue to improve, new ideas and materials need to be used. No computer designed by man can even compare to the designed DNA found in nature. It is faster, smaller, and cheaper. Scientist have proven that it can be manipulated to be used as a computer. As the future approaches, do not be surprised if more and more DNA parts are found in home and personal computers. David Hawksett, a science judge at the Guinness World Records, said it best as DNA computers “Is an area of research that leaves the science fiction writers struggling to keep up," (Lovgren, pg2, 2003)

This is one short exercise that I did in intro to creative writing class. The professor wrote one sentence and we had to write a paragraph with it. Here is what I came up with.

When summer broke open like an egg yolk Minnesota was in her rear view mirror. Fortunately for me, Minnesota was also in mine. I drove south in search of what people from out of state call “Warmth”. My hopes were to also find a good omelet. I learned that summer can be easy to find but a good cooked egg is hard to come by.

Well like all the blogs before this one, I lost track of it and haven't posted in about a years. Well I'm not giving up yet. So college is hard and I don't have much time, but I have a plan. I was in intro creative writing class this last semester and have been working on various progress.

Oh yeah, the man himself. Some doubted, some thought he wouldn’t make do it. But he did. Batman made the number one Hero. Not exactly against all odd though, I mean he’s Batman, if he didn’t make it he would have come close. Every close. Then he’d send the people that got ahead of him to the hospital.

Batman is the coolest super hero, biggest BA, greatest detective, darkest, most clever, greatest crime fighter in DC Comics. He started way back out in 1939 and now is one of the most liked comic book heroes. The Character has starred in may comic books, televisions shows, cartoon shows, video games, and movies.

Our now Dark Knight had to overcome some great odds to get on top of the comic world. The largest one being himself. Early in his career as a comic character he was depicted in very childish comics. Though most all comic characters started out that way, not many of them shook it off to become as dark as Batman is. The character took another blow to his credibility during the 60’s when the Batman Television show aired. This show made Batman look goofy, weird, and anything but dark. Thought the show was good for a laugh, for a character to overcome that image and become a dark vigilante is a great achievement.

Batman is really Bruce Wayne, the owner of the billion dollar company Wayne Enterprises. He was born in Gotham City, the most crime infested city in the United State. His Parents were killed right in front of him by mugger. That event changed Bruce forever. He traveled the world learning all he could about marshal arts, acrobatics, escape artists, detective work as well as any skill he could master. He quickly became a master of many talents and he returned to Gotham. In Gotham he took up a cape and cowl, that covered most of his face and had a bat-like ears at the top, and called himself “Batman”. He used his talents and almost infinite resources to fight the crime in Gotham. He would use his image to cast fear in the hearts of criminal like no other hero could.

Batman is one of the greatest fighters in the DC world. With his marshal arts and a few throwing knives (batarang) he can take out a whole force of armed criminals. He also has an arsenal of other weapons gadgets, and vehicles that he invented himself. With these he can solve almost any problem he faces.

But Batman’s greatest weapon is his mind. He’s only human so super humans sometimes can get the better of him. But if he has time to prepare, or can escape for a second round (which he can always do, he’s batman) no one stands a chance. He can outsmart anyone and always finds a way to defeat his foe. Foes which once even included Superman (yes, Batman did defeat Superman in “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”). Batman is also one of the greatest detectives in the world. He can solve any case and find any criminal. Bats uses his brain in all situations. His intelligence makes him equals with some of the most powerful super heroes in DC. Which is why he is a dominate figure in the Justice League.

He’s Dark. He’s cold. He’s clever. He’s cool. Batman just rocks. Batman in number one.

With no surprise, Darth Vader beat out every other villain in this event, even getting more points than the top hero. And why wouldn’t he, he’s Darth Vader! Vader’s character started in the first (sorry, fourth) Star Wars Movie “The New Hope” as the brutal right-hand-man of the galaxy’s evil empire. He was played by the 6 foot 7 actor David Prowse and was given a deep, powerful voice by the legendary actor James Earl Jones.

He wore all black (as a good villain should) which included a long, menacing, black cape. His head and face was covered in a helmet and breathing mask. His mask was hooked up to a breathing system which kept him alive as well as constantly making a machine creepy breathing sound. He had mechanical organs and limps integrated with his body do to injuries of the past. With all this, his appearance made him look evil, frightening, and inhuman. Good qualities of a great villain.

Even though he looked cool and menacing, it was more what he did that made him evil and a great villain. He worked for the Empire and did what ever needed to be done, in the most brutal fashion. He killed when ever necessary (and sometimes not necessary), which included his own men (5) and even children (3). Darth Vader, is a cunning and commanding villain. He sets the traps, makes the deals, conquers the galaxy in his own way.

Though he is a terrific general, he is a even greater warrior. He piloting skills were said to be unmatched, his light saber swordsmanship was nearly unrivaled, and his power with the force was supreme (excluding the empire). With these talents he made a name for himself killing off the protectors of the Galaxy, the Jedi.

Though he started out was quite a nice guy. He was a kind boy named Anakin Skywalker (1), who grew up to be a great Jedi. He even felling love and got married (2). But the quest for power lead him to the dark side and he became a Dark Lord of the Sith (3) (Note: not a Dork Lord or the Steve). He became Darth Vader, the badest of the Bad. Though I wish George Lucas make the transition between Anakin and Vader less abrupt; one minute he’s working for the Jedi, the next, he’s killing little Jedi children. But that’s not the only thing that I wish Luca did so we‘ll forget that for now.

Though Vader good at first and was redeemed in the end of the series (6), he still was the evil power that made the series great. Don’t believe me? You don’t see Luke or even Han on the list do you? The character in the series we really remember is the walking-life-support-system, red-light-saber-wielding, black-cape-wearing, chokehold-using Darth Vader. Darth Vader is number one.

Spider-Man

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. One of the most popular costume crime fighters in Marvel Comics. A hero to both children as well as adults. The character started as an idea in 1962 but he got his own comic series a year later. Even today his comics are a good seller. I know some people don’t like the new Spider-Man movies but I say we forget about that for now and focus on the cool Spider-Man from the comic books.

He has abilities similar to spiders (go figure). He has super strength as well as super agility. Spidy also has the ability stick to walls and ceilings. Another power is his Spider Sense (no, he can’t see ghosts). With that power he can sense danger before it happens. Spider-Man also invented a tool called a Web-Shooter which can shoot a spider web like substance. With the spider web, he can tie things up or swing through the city. Spider-Man swings through New York City in a red and blue custom and mask.

Spider-Man is really Peter Parker. Peter was a high-schooler, but not an ordinary high-schooler; he was a nerd. A big nerd. But that all changed when he was bitten by a radioactive spider. The bite became more than infected, it gave him superpowers (I need to find that spider). At first he used his powers in wrestling to gain money for himself. He wore a mask to hide his identity and started calling himself Spider-Man. He became selfish and even argued heavily with his Uncle, Uncle Ben. One day he saw a crime in progress but chose to not use his powers to stop the criminal. Later he found out that that same criminal killed his Uncle. After that moment, he chose to live by the words of his Uncle, “With great power comes great responsibility.” From then on he became a crime fighter and super hero.

Which leads me to my first reason Spider-Man is cool; he is always fighting to do what it right. He will always fight for what he feels is right and not cross the line into doing something wrong. In fact, he won’t touch that line with a ten foot pole (most of the time). It is part of his continuing struggle, what is the right thing to do? It is a difficult path but it is one that Spider-Man chooses to take.

The next reason Spider-Man is cool is because of his powers. Who ( at lease when they were a kid) wouldn’t want to swing through the streets of New York? His powers are just cool.

Other reasons Spider-Man is cool? In the comic book, it is his attitude while fighting. Most super heroes will go and fight very seriously. That is because the situation is serious. Though Spider-Man deals with Serious situations, he tends to deal with it with a sense of humor. He fakes fun of his foes as he fights them, making then hate him even more.

Character flaws? The Spider-Man in the new movies skips to stupid music. Also he took off his mask during the Civil War story. Now the whole world knows he is Peter Parker. Not very smart Spider-Man.

The Clown Prince of Crime, The Harlequin of Hate, The Ace of Knaves. Some characters got on this list because they are somewhat clever, but this villain makes the list because he is completely insane. The Joker is one of Batman’s most morbid, reoccurring, devious, and crazy foe. He started in DC Comics in 1940 in one of the first Batman issue. This crazy and villainous clown because quite popular and even is today. He is almost as well known as Batman himself. The Joker is a crime ‘mastermind’ (if one can be a mastermind and insane at the same time) in the streets of Gotham City.

Joker started his criminal career as the first Red Hood. When trying to escape Batman, he fell into a large vat of chemicals (like other Batman villains). He survived but his skin was now white, his hair green, his face with an huge grin, and totally, completely, and utterly crazy. He now loves the pain of others and hates Batman with a passion.

The Joker is most certainly evil, and he doesn’t need a reason to be. He just is, and he likes it that way. He murders just for the fun of it and enjoys it when he causes suffering. Though he is indeed completely off the wall, he is also smart and clever. He is a tricky criminal. He can pull a great heist as well as lay a good trap. Joker has caught Batman and other heroes off guard numerous times. He manipulates events and people into causing the havoc he wants. Whenever the Joker is around, there’s trouble. But you can never tell what kind of trouble. He is as Unpredictable as he is insane.

No one but the Joker can put a city in danger and make it look humorous. Other than being Batman’s greatest foe, the Joker rocks because he’s just such a fun character. He’s so insane its funny and entertaining. We can’t like him because he’s a murderer but, even more so, we can’t spot liking him because of his crazy criminal clown attitude. He’s entertaining, funny and a great villain.

Login, aka Wolverine, one of the most popular characters in Marvel Comic’s X-Men. He premiered in an Incredible Hulk comic in 1974 but one year later the character joined the famous X-Men team. Since then he has become the most well known and well like of all the X-Men characters. He has starred in his own comics, video games, and maybe even his own movie.

Like all the X-Men (or most), Login is a Mutant. His mutant power is the ability to heal rapidly as well as heightened senses. With his healing ability, a mere cut would take seconds to heal. A more fatal blow for us would take moments for him to heal. He is immune to most illnesses. He can even smoke and drink without any bad consequences. With his heightened senses he can track down almost anyone and detect traps. He also has an adamantium metal skeleton. Almost nothing in Marvel Comics can destroy adamantium. So in other words his bones can’t be broken or destroyed. Add his healing ability and he is almost impossible to kill. One would have to try really, really hard to kill him and if he/she failed, he/she would have to run really, really fast. His most well-known trait is three adamantium claws that pop out of each hand. These claws stay in his forearm until his pops them out between his knuckles. He also is an expert on hand to hand, claws, or sword combat.

Login has amnesia so not much is known about his past (though his history was later revealed to readers). He lost his memories when Weapon-X did experiments on him. It was Weapon-X that put the metal skeleton in him and made him into the perfect killing machine. After escaping Weapon-X, he joined up with the X-Men.

Wolverine is liked mainly because of his attitude. Most all of the time he is a BA (I used this word once, I’m trying not to use it again. I want to keep this blog kid friendly). He is generally a grunt with a “leave me alone” and “don’t give a crap” attitude. He loses his temper easily and can go berserk in battle. He is the first to recommend the cruel methods and is not afraid of offending people or getting into fight. Yet even with this attitude problem he still can care for those he calls friends but be warned whose who he calls enemies.

Lex Luthor is one of the smartest individuals in DC Comics, and one of the most devious. His character started in 1940 with Action Comic s as a Superman villain. Though he is still one of Superman’s greatest nemeses, he is now a foe for every hero in the DC world. He even is found fighting the entire Justice League.

This is all impressive since Lex Luthor has no powers. That’s right, one of the greatest villains of all time in the comic world is powerless. Not only that, he’s hairless as well. Though he used to have red hair, Luthor became bolded when he was conducting an experiment. It when wrong and the building was set on fire. Superman blew the fire out but in doing so destroyed the experiment and spilled chemicals on Lex making him bold. Lex Luthor vowed revenge.

So why is this hairless, powerless villain so great? Well as I have said in the past posts, powers are not everything. Like a lot of villains and heroes before, Lex gets on this list do to his genius. His brilliants gives him the ability to outsmart the governments of the world, the entire Justice League, the smartest rival villains, and every alien worlds. He was even smart enough to fake his own death and also smart enough to become the president of the United States. He is also a great inventor and can create weapons for his purposes. Lex also own Lex Corp (or Luthor Corp), a billion dollar company. Though the Heroes know he is a villain, Lex is smart enough to not get put in prison, most of the time. He also is smart enough to know Superman’s weakness of Kryptonite though he has yet to kill superman with it.

Any man this clever is indeed most devious. Lex Luthor is one of the greatest villains.

Superman. The Man of Steel. The Man of Tomorrow. The Last Son of Krypton. The Big Blue Boy Scout. One of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, superheroes in DC Comics. This character started way back in 1932 with Action Comics and he is still one of the best known names for Superheroes. The character of Superman has starred in comics, movies, and television shows even when each were almost brand new.

Superman is really Kal-El, a being from the planet Krypton. Krypton was a planet of an advance race. The Planet orbited a red sun. But the planet was soon going to be destroyed (for some reason or another) and Kal-El’s father, Jor-El, knew it would happen but couldn’t convince anyone to do anything about it. In the end, the only thing he could do is send his baby son, Kal-El, out on a space craft so save his life. Kar-El was the only one that survived when his planet was destroyed (or maybe a few others, but lets not get into that right now).

Kal-El landed on earth where he was found by the couple Jonathon and Martha Kent. Since the two had no kids of their own, they raised the boy as Clark Kent. On earth, our yellow sun had a strange affect on the young Clark. It gave him strength. Not strength as in jockey football player strength. Strength as in lift up a car or out run a train. As the boy grew up so did his powers. As he became a young adult his speed and strength grew to the point where it was almost ridicules. His other powers also surfaced. He could fly with ease and super speed. His eyes had x-ray vision and could shoot a blast of energy. And he had super hearing and his lungs gave him super breath.

When he became an adult he moved to Metropolis where he started two lives. One was Clark Kent with Glasses, fake glasses, who worked as a news reported for the Daily Planet. The other was a costume with red cape wearing superhero known as Superman (Without glasses so therefore Clark Kent could not possibly be Superman).

Superman is earths greatest Hero. Though he does stop the city’s criminal once in a while, this man usually saves the earth itself. He can stop natural disasters, huge meteors, as well as alien invaders. He even overcame his own death. He later became the leading figure in the Justice League.

Superman is not only powerful, he is also heroic. He knows what he stands for and won’t back down on his beliefs. He is always trying to do the right thing and usually doesn’t take crap from other (though maybe Batman’s). Superman is a definition of a superhero.

Magneto is one of the most powerful mutants in Marvel Comics and the most reoccurring villain, as well as one of the most powerful, X-men foes. He was the first X-men villain and is still and vicious enemy in Marvel. His first appearance was in 1963 and is still a popular villain.

Mutant is a human who’s cell have mutated to give that person superpowers or super weaknesses. Magnet apparently was one of the most powerful in the world. His power is the ability to control all magnet waves. Basically he has ability to control, move, and even reshape all the metal around him. He can lift metal object even if it weighs tons. He can even manipulate magnet fields in the air to create energy attacks and a force fields. He can also use the magnet fields to fly. These may seem like dorky power at first, but anything metal can become his weapon, anything metal. This includes Heroes weapons that are metal. In an area like a city, he is nearly invincible do to all the metal at his disposal. He is incredibly powerful and hard to defeat each time he shows up.

Magneto, or Erik Lehnsherr, was born before world war two. His parents were killed by the Nazis and his was sent to a concentration camp. After the war he got married and had a baby girl. But the village rose up to kill him and his family, succeeding in killing his daughter. Magneto mutant powers suddenly surfaced and he killed the whole mob.

Later on he meet Charles Xavier and the two became scholars and teachers together as well as friends. They debated on how the emerging mutants would effect the world. Xavier knew that that people would hate mutants but believed that he could teach mutants and mankind to get along peacefully. Magneto believed that there would be a war between the two races and that only one could stand as the master of the other. He believed that mutants needed to strike first. Xavier went on to start the X-men, a team of mutants that would protect mankind even though they were hated. Magneto started the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (no really, that’s what he named it, it was later just named the Brotherhood.) to wage war on mankind. The two were now no longer friends but the worst of enemies.

Magneto is as smart as he is powerful. He has a chess like mindset and can make the most masterful plan. He wants mutants to rule the world

Doctor Who has the record for the longest running science fiction television show. It is a British Sci-Fi that started back in 1963 and ran to 1989. A movie was made in 1996 but unlike the show, it was very unpopular. The show re-aired in 2005 and is still running today. Now that’s one long series. The show itself has affected the British Culture. In fact, it is so popular that Doctor Who is one of Britain’s ‘Mascots’. It is also popular with Sci-Fi fans world wide.

The Show stares a man referred to only as The Doctor (PHD Doctor, not Medical doctor). He is a human looking being that is really an alien. He is a Time Lord, beings from the planet Gallifrey. Time Lords travel in time machines called Tardis.

First, the Time Lords are beings that have the most advance understanding of time and space than most (or even all) of the races found in the known universe. The travel time and space making sure that time is left intact.

The Tardis is the Time Lord tool and craft to travel time and space. The word Tardis means Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. It appears small, about the size of a phone booth, but it is a powerful force. It is really transcendental, which means it is larger in the inside then in the outside. The Doctor’s Tardis looks like a British blue police box.

Now to the man himself. The Doctor is a renegade Time Lord that is out looking for exploration, adventure, or sometime just a vacation. He separated himself from the other Time Lords to ensure that he could do things his way. Yet he always find other people, usually attractive women, to join him on his adventures. These people usually have the same exploring desire as the doctor but rely on his superior knowledge and the Doctor usually finds the father role of the team. Though innocent enough, the Doctor always finds, purposely or accidentally, his way in the worse cases throughout history. He is often saving a country, a world, the universe, or even time itself. He has been known to be one of the most intelligent and, even more so, cleaver Time Lord.

As a Time Lord, the Doctor can regenerate anytime he is critically injured. That way, new actors can take the role and give the Doctor new attributes and styles. This makes the Doctor a cool character because we get to choose the Doctor we like the best. The actors that played him include William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker (my favorite), Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Chrisopher Eccleston, and David Tennant. That makes ten in all. Since a Time Lord can Regenerate 12 time (13 different person) three more people can yet play the role of the doctor.

This Time Lord doesn’t act like most heroes. He usually doesn’t fight at all, but instead, outsmarts his enemies. The Doctor has a very sly and cocky attitude. In fact, he may be the most sly person on this list. He may be cocky but he is cleaver and smart enough to back it up. Most of the Doctors are very funny. His Sly attitude and the fact that he makes light of most tough situations gives him a funny attitude.

The Doctor is also Heroic because he is stubborn. He will not back down to evil nor will he let down his morals. He stands for what is right and fights for it will all his being.

Creepy long white hair, leather uniform and trench coat, ridiculously long sword, how can anyone not like Sephiroth. He’s simply one bad dude. Sephiroth is the main villain in the game Final Fantasy 7. In fact, he is the most remembered villain, or even character, from all the Final Fantasy games and one of the most remembered villains from video game history. Much happened in Final Fantasy 7, as it does in all the Final Fantasies. Yet in the end the main story was to stop Sephiroth.

His story? Sephiroth was the son of Lucrecia Crescent and Professor Hojo. They voluntarily let Sephiroth be part of an experiment called the “Jenova Project”. They injecting him while he was still unborn with the cells of an evil entity known as Jenova. Sephiroth grew up thinking that his mother was a woman named Jenova. When he became an adult he joined the army and was immediately recognized. His powers were on the line of ridicules and unbelievable. Even those considered equal in the ranks of the army were amazed by his power and strength. Everyone knew that he was unbeatable.

Later on, he was sent to kill some monsters in a town called Nibelheim. There, he learned the secret of his birth and went mad. He destroyed the town and tried to capture the remains of Jenova. Sephiroth partner Zack and an army soldier named Cloud tried to stop him. In the end, Sephiroth took Jenova’s head and was either pushed or jumped into the world’s lifestream. Sephiroth absorbed Jenova’s power and traveled the lifestream making his plans to obsorb the whole worlds lifeforce making himself a god. Which means he would kill everyone on earth and become all powerful.. Can we say evil?

Then the game started. Sephiroth traveled the lifestream taking control over people that were experimented on with Jenova cells. He could even mold them to look like himself. He even forced the games main character, Cloud, into helping him take control of the lifestream. In the end, Cloud and his friends defeated Sephiroth and stopped him from destroying the world. Whoever, in movies other games, Sephiroth is still around trying to come back from the life stream.

Sephiroth is a creepy and powerful character. He manipulates people and events to form his own will. In all the world he is the most powerful creature (I think, He’s the last boss). And most important of all, he has a huge long sword. I mean it’s humongous to the point that if it wasn’t Sephiroth, it would be unthinkable to use it.

All in all Sephiroth is an awesome villain.

Bullwhip, fedora, fear of snakes, these are some of the traits of the famous Indiana Jones. This adventurous archaeologist is one of the most popular and well known fiction characters in movie history. The actor that played Jones, Harrison Ford, both defined and is defined by this character. The first Indiana Jones movie was “Raiders of the Lost Ark” then came “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”. The character later went on TV (As the young Jones), Books, and Graphic Novels. Now a fourth movie staring Harrison Ford is being made now.

Archaeology has never been so entertaining. Indiana Jones is a famous archaeologist and professor during the 40’s. Jones travels the world looking for lost relics of the past, like archaeologist do. Unlike most archaeologist Indiana meets deathtraps, woman, and plenty of bad guys (and sometime bad woman). His most usual villains are the Nazis who are after the same artifact and will stop at nothing to get it. Jones life is quite dangerous, making him more than a tome raider. He’s a fighter and sometimes a soldier. Indy spends most of his time in these movies fighting for his life (and maybe a woman’s) rather than actual archaeologist work. His most common weapon and tool is his bullwhip. He does use guns and other weapons but any man who takes out Nazi soldiers with just a whip is pretty awesome. Though artifact, history, culture, and legend knowledge is a characteristic just as strong as his fighting skills. With these skills he can solve puzzles and find artifacts faster then his rivals.

Other reasons this character rocks? He has a somewhat sly and scoundrel attitude. He is often seen bartering in bars and other darker places. He is sly and smart enough he make his way through Nazi territory. He is a terrific fighter who usually finds a way to win despite odd against him. Though he is in no way invincible, just determined. Usually he is always the one taking the most damage throughout the movies (except for the ones who actually die). He never gives up but he goes through so much pain that one could be sorry for him (or think it’s funny). He also has a very large fear of snakes which always seem to get in his way. Even these flaws add to his characteristics and reasons we like him. Indiana Jones kicks serious butt and deserves to be on this list.

Sauron is the main antagonist in the very famous book trilogy “The Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkien. In fact, in the book Sauron is called the Lord of the Rings. So therefore the books are all about him (unless you believe that it is all about hobbits). He is the most powerful villain that you never see. This is because the main characters in the book never actually get to fight or even meet Sauron. In the books he has no human qualities, unlike most other villains on this list, Sauron is mainly cool solely due to his power and might. He is the larges threat to the land of Middle-earth. The whole trilogy is about destroying Sauron by destroying his life-force that is held in the One Ring.

Lets go back to the beginning. Sauron was a spirit like being called a Maia. The Maia were beings that where the servants of the Godlike beings Vala who create things and races in the world. Sauron later was lead to evil by the Dark Vala Morgoth (aka Middle-earth’s Satan). Morgoth was defeated by the other Vala and Sauron hid in Middle-earth until the next age. 1,000 years later, he appeared again and tricked the elves into making rings of great power. He gave the elves three, the dwarves seven, and the humans nine. But unknown to everyone but himself, in his land of Mordor, he created a master ring. This “One Ring” was made by the volcano fires of his Mount Doom. He poured his life-force and power into the ring. With this ring he could corrupt the other rings bending their wielders power he suit his own means. With this power he almost conquered all of Middle-earth. That is until in a battle Prince Isildur got a lucky shot at Sauron. With his father’s sword, Isildur cut off Sauron’s finger that held the ring. With the ring gone, Sauron disappeared and hid until he could reclaim physical form.

(hold on, let me catch my breath)

This only leads up to the beginning of the trilogy. 2,000 years later Sauron is back in the form of a giant fire-like eye (so all you would have to do is pour pepper on him to defeat him, the hero’s never thought of that though). He reassembles all his armies and prepares to take back Middle-earth. He only needs one thing to make him plans succeed, that blasted ring he lost. So as Sauron looks for the ring, our heroes plus a bunch of hobbits try to bring the ring to Mordor (which is where Sauron is so it wasn’t a full proof plan) to throw it into the volcano of Mount Doom where it can be destroyed. At the same time, the ring, which is part of Sauron, tries to get the other against each other and tries to get back to its true owner.

However, Sauron doesn’t actually do anything in the books but give orders to his powerful minions, though he does deceive people into joining him. So why make the list? Well like I said, his power alone can get him on the list. When someone comes back after 2,000 years in the shape of an eye and then everyone wets themselves, you know he’s powerful. Without him, we wouldn’t have one of the best fantasy book series of all time. His evil makes the books. Also, he counts as evil and a good villain because he can manipulate, corrupt, deceive, and control people through the power of his ring as the heroes transport it. He can make several plans at once to conquer different parts of the world at the same time. He also can scare the crap out of an army just by shining a scary light at them.

Character flaws? He’s just a giant eye. And the biggest flaw of all, he was taken down by hobbits. Hobbits!

The Hero of Time. The wielder of the Master Sword. Link is the protector of the land of Hyrule in the popular video game series Legend of Zelda. This green wearing boy, or young man, is one of the most popular video game characters of all time. And he can achieve that without saying a word.

Link is the hero who fights to protect the people from the evil in the world, usually Ganondorf. He is usually called upon by the princess Zelda to either save her or her people from danger. Without hesitation this seemingly simply, young, and innocent boy will jump into a viciously dangerous dungeon or pit of unspeakably evil. In most stories involving Link (not all of the games have the same continuity) Link starts out innocent but becomes the defender of the world and all its magic. He has mastered forests, mountains, volcanoes, oceans, swamps, and even time. He wields a sword and shield but is handy with all kinds of weapons, tools, and magic. These include Bow and Arrows (with magic arrows as well), bombs, magic spells, fairies (or spirits as I call them, the definition of “Fair” has changed), positions, boomerangs hammers, magic masks, hook-shots, and an ocarina that controls the surrounding environment including time. Yet he is most famous for wielding the most powerful tool of all, the Master Sword.

Link is heroic and brave. He spends most of the game fighting challenging foes and solving even more challenging puzzles. He gets put through tough situations but he never turns back (except to go fishing) and always overcomes. He’s fun to play as and his games are always a great hit (no matter how long it takes to get here). Link is the Hero of Time and the seventh Top Hero on this list.

One of the most genius and evil villains of Marvel Comics, Doctor Doom is the main nemesis for the Fantastic Four. Though he is a powerful foe for most all of the Marvel universe, his main enemy is Reed Richards and his team of superheroes. He wears metal armor, green cloak, and an iron mask.

Doctor Doom is really Victor von Doom, a son of a healer and witch (no really, he was). His parents died while Doom was young. Doom went on to study magic and, even more so, science. While attending an American college, he met Reed Richards, the future Mr. Fantastic and his future enemy. While Doom was working on an experiment, Reed pointed out a miscalculation but Doom ignored him. He went on to do the experiment which blew up in his face giving him a scarred face. The prideful Doom blamed Reed for the incident and vowed revenge. He wore an iron mast in the form of a face to cover the scar. Doom later became king of a (marvel fictional) eastern Europe country called Latveria. From there he makes his plans to defeat Richard and take over the world (like a good villain should).

Doom is one of the smartest people in the Marvel universe. Not only is he a tactic genius (he did take over a country) he is a brilliant scientist and inventor, one of the best in the world. He’s always creating new devices for his own means. He also is a powerful sorcerer and has his own powered army.

As one of the smartest most feared villains in Marvel, he definitely makes the list.

8th Hero

David, Solid Snake

The man we’ve all been waiting for, Solid Snake! One of the most popular action characters in the video game world and main hero (that’s right, it wasn’t Raiden) of the video game series Metal Gear. The first Metal Gear was created (directed) by Hideo Kojima in 1987. The game was simply called Metal Gear and was used for the NES, or the Japanese MSX2. Metal Gear 2 came out in Japan for the MSX2. After that, Solid really took off in the PlayStation systems in the Metal Gear: Solid series. Metal Gear: Solid came out of the Playstation then both Metal Gear: Solid 2 Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear: Solid 3 Snake Eater came out for the Playstation 2. Now Metal Gear: Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots will be coming out for the Playstation 3 sometime in the future.

But who is Snake in all of this? Snake is a soldier. That’s the best word to describe him. If you could imagine the most bad ass soldier, the soldier you wouldn’t want fight, that would be him. An expert in everything one needs in the battle field, Snake is the ultimate and perfect soldier. The only thing he really is good at (other than dog sledding) is fighting and killing.

He literally is a one man army. Other than Sons of Liberty, he is sent in alone, completely outnumbered, and mostly unarmed. Suicide? Perhaps, if it was anyone but Solid Snake. He can sneak around an enemy base like it’s no ones business. Collecting weapons and tools when he can, he can outmaneuver an entire army base. When he needs to fight, he fights as the best warrior on earth. Whatever the battle, whatever the situation, whatever the condition (whatever the boss) Snake can adapt and win. He has no powers, he knows he’s outnumbered. It’s not that he’s super powerful, it’s that he knows that battle field, knows when to hide, knows when to kill, knows what it takes to be a soldier.

Snake is beyond army strong.

The threat? Metal Gear. A walking, nuclear equipped, battle tank. A weapon that can fight a nuke anywhere in the world from any point of the world and maneuver in any terrain. A.k.a. the ultimate weapon, and always in the wrong hands. The solution? Send one man in to destroy this threat. You’ve guess it, Solid Snake is that man. This is the basis of every one of his video games.

Where did he come from? He was raised in the military and eventually joined an army special task force called Fox Hound. There he was named Solid Snake. In the first Metal Gear incident, Snake figured out that his commander, Big Boss was really the criminal behind the Metal Gear threat. Big Boss was said to be the greatest soldier of all time. Later, Big Boss said that he was Snake’s father, but Snake still had to kill him to save the day. Years later, during the Metal Gear: Solid game, Snake meet his twin brother Liquid Snake. Liquid revealed that they weren’t the sons of Big Boss, they were his clones. Which is why the bother were perfect soldiers.

After defeating Liquid, Snake got tired of being a military pawn and set out on his own to destroy Metal Gears and evil powers that controlled our government.

He’s an awesome soldier and warrior. That alone is enough to set him on the hero list. But it is more than that. He’s attitude is also awesome. He is cool and coldhearted but can still care for people. He carries himself with a don’t-mess-with-me style and can certainly flirt well with the ladies. His cold hearted ego is well deserving, he has been a soldier for a long time. When he tells your to do something, you better do it. He also rocks because no matter how terrible the situation, no matter how hard it is, no matter how much he doesn’t want to go on, no matter how much he lost in the past, he still finds a way to prevail. Things are never easy for him but he is a true over-comer. And who else can make a cardboard box look so cool?

Iron Man

I know some of you might be a bit surprised at this but you are reading it correctly. Iron Man is the 8th Villain. That’s right, people voted him villain. I know I said I would omit heroes that were voted villain but in this case I really couldn’t. To me and my friends he (recently) is a villain (though I didn’t vote him villain, others did that).

So why villain? Well first I have to explain who he is. Iron Man is a Marvel Comic superhero. Yup, superHERO. Iron Man is really Tony Stark, a billionaire who is an arms manufacturer and supplier for the USA military and also a genus inventor. For himself, he invented a iron suit that gives him powers and weapon to defeat evil. He later joins the superhero team the Avengers.

So some people might be upset with him making the villain list. Unlike the other villains, he didn’t make the list because we thought he was a great or likable villain. Why do we now consider him a villain? Well I’ve got two words for you. CIVIL WAR!

For those who don’t know, Civil War is Marvel’s recent multi-crossover story series. In it, the government wants to ID every superhero in the United States, and more importantly, implant small chips inside them so that the government could deactivate their powers whenever they wanted to. This law split the heroes up. On one side, Captain America and his team fought against the law saying that it violates civil rights. On the other side, Iron Man fights to make sure that the law is held. During that story Iron Man tries to do everything to make sure that his side wins, even threaten innocent lives. In the end Iron Man wins and our hero Captain America dies.

Iron Man working for the government to take away rights and implant computer chips inside people?! Villainous!! In a world where our own government is slowly taking away our rights and making similar plans as this story, we direct our anger on this fictional character. To some of my friends, he represents the Big Brother government that we hate. I know that this story the government wasn’t trying to take everyone’s rights away, and Iron Man might think that he’s doing this to protect the people, but as soon as one persons rights are in jeopardy, we have all lost something and are all in danger of losing that same right.

Sorry Iron Man, you were once a good superhero. Perhaps you might of even made the hero list. But those who support a Big Brother government, a government that wants to control and monitor, cannot be seen as a hero in mine and my friends’ eyes. I do not support a government that would take away rights out of fear. I do not support a government that would implant computer chips to monitor its people. Apparently my friends feel the same way. Iron Man, you picked the wrong side and you became a villain.

The most popular fictional detective characters ever, Sherlock Holmes has received legendary status. Being around for over a hundred years, he is one of the most well known fictional character of our age. Holmes has appeared in books, magazines, movies, television shows, and made references and cameos in all and more. Sherlock Holmes has captured the attention and imagination of people all over the world (example, Japanese anime characters who have obsession with the Holmes character). He was created by the British author Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle but many other authors have written about the character.

Holmes is a private detective that lived in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Sherlock uses logic, observation, and deductive reasoning to solve crimes that others cannot. He is a brilliant detective that can deduce with amazing speed, talent, genus, and grace. He can piece the evidence together, crack coded messages, predict people reactions and responses and outright outsmart everyone. He can examine a scene like no one else and notice things that others overlook or not even notice. His examine skills include tracking footprints and even study finger prints. He also is a superb scientist. He studies chemistry and uses it to help solve some cases. Furthermore, he is a great master of disguise and can even fool his good friend Dr. John H. Watson.

Holmes is somewhat of a British gentleman, but he is more odd than anything else. He lives for the case and the hunt of the criminal. He can even get depressed when there is no challenging foe for him to capture. He can be very cold at time. Holmes doesn’t care much for the social circles and activities of the outside world (my Hero). Instead he has the behavior of thinking he is superior to others. His great ego is not undeserving, he is smarter than most everyone else. He can even be a bit showy when capturing the villains. However he can be quite exited when he is on a hard case. He can also be honorable. He hates evil and has a great desire to undo wrongdoings of criminals and make sure that those criminals received their due justice.

Character flaws? He has an addiction to cocaine and morphine. Though it counts as a flaw it really just gives him more character (though he already had a lot of character) so it’s not really a flaw to the character.

So why is Sherlock Holmes so cool? Well he’s brilliant. He’s the first type of detective to use such amazing thinking and logic to solve his cases. Who wouldn’t want to be smart enough to out smart his enemies at every turn. His sly attitude and ego also makes him a memorial character. All in all, Sherlock Holmes just rocks.

Now those who saw the George Clooney’s batman movie “Batman & Robin” might be wondering why Bane would even be considered to be on the list. And right they would be, if they only saw that movie. There, he was only a muscled henchman who didn’t even have the capability of speech and served no purpose to the plot of that already horrible movie.

With that said, I’d like to note that Bane in the comics and Cartoon shows was a much, much (infinitely much) better villain. Because he was in his best in the comics I will be referring to that Bane.

Bane is a DC Comic villain and one of Batman’s greatest foe. Bane spent most of his life in a foreign (to America) prison. There he spent his time building his strength and mind. He built up his body to become beyond normal strength. He learned to fight from the best teachers the prison had to offer and from spending his life constantly defending himself. So he’s a tough guy, but what most people don’t know is that his greatest weapon is really his mind. He spent most of his time reading anything he could get his hands on and learning about the world and about crime from the other inmates. He soon became ‘king’ of the prison. The guards noted that Bane was running the inmates and tried to get rid of him be forcing him to be a test subject for scientific research. Injecting something called Venom into his system, Bane almost died. Yet he survived what killed everyone else exposed to it. The Venom increased his already powered strength giving him superb muscle power. The Venom needed to be injected every day to keep him alive so he made a mask and had tube to go the back of his head to continually inject the Venom.

Bane escaped the prison with his newfound power and set his sights on ruling Gotham’s underground crime. With his strength and brain he could easily do it but there was one thing in his way, Batman. Now this is what Bane is most famous for, defeating Batman. Now Bane’s strong but Batman took on strong people before, here’s where Bane’s genus comes in. He figured out who Batman was (which is an accomplishment in the DC world). Then Bane destroyed Arkham Asylum’s walls releasing the cities worse criminals. It took Batman three months to recapture them all, making him completely exhausted. After Batman finished cleaning Bane’s mess, Batman returned to his Batcave to find Bane waiting for him. In his beat up, tired form, Batman was no match for Bane and Bane broke Batman’s back, taking him out of the crime fighting business. Bane ruled the city until a new Batman defeated him. Don’t worry kids, the old Batman was back on his feet eventually.

From then on, Bane was referred to as the man who beat the Batman. Whenever DC needed to great enemy in Gotham, he was the horrible force they could use. Whenever he showed up, things were at their worst.

There you have it. Why Bane is on the list. Anyone with a win over Batman is a good villain.

Bond. James Bond. Agent 007. British’s most famous fictional secret agent. Mr. Bond works for British’s secret agency MI6 (aka S.I.S.), his rank is double 0 ( 00 ), the highest spy rank given the most important and most dangerous missions. Whenever Britain needs to save the world they call on their man, James Bond. Or whenever they need someone taken out.

James Bond was the son of a Scottish man and a Swiss woman. His parents died in a mountain accident when he was just eleven. From then on he traveled from school to school and even country to country learning all he could. He learned all he could about the world, government, military, business, and several languages which include Danish, Japanese, German, Russian, and French. He lied about his age and entered the British army prematurely and then he rose through the ranks to commander. Then he joined the British Navy which he also rose to commander. It is unclear when he became a MI6 agent but it was sometime after he left the Navy.

James Bond started as a character in books in 1953. His first author was Ian Flemin g but dozens of other authors have written about 007 afterwards. James fame really grew once his character 1962 and starred Swas put on film. His movies became huge and are still being made today. His first movie was Sean Connery. Connery made five more movies before retiring his part in the role. Since then others have filled the part of Bond including George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and most recently Daniel Craig. Twenty movies have been made altogether (note: Craig’s newest movie “Bond 22” is said to come out sometime 2008 making 21 movies). He also is a popular videogame character.

Bond’s the name and espionage is his game. And James knows how to play it. James is the best at everything a spy needs. He can blend in and sneak around any city in the world and Sneak or talk his way into any facility. He is very charming and sly. He can become your best friend and spy on you at the same time (then kill you). James can charm any woman we wants or needs to charm to complete the mission. He isn’t tied or slowed down by them either, the mission is first and he can let go of them at any time (except the time in the movies where he was married). I mean, in one movie he was with four different woman at different times. FOUR!

And when spying isn’t enough, James can fight his way out of any situation. He can box and fight like the best of them but his true skill is his gunmanship. James Bond is alone most of the time and can still shoot his way out even when highly outnumbered. Bond is also known to drive like no one else on earth, which is good because he can get into a lot of car chases. Furthermore, he’s been known to drive tanks, helicopters, planes, and wield a number of secret agent gadgets.

Other reasons Bond is cool? Well, I guess he’s another definition of cool. This suit wearing agent carries himself with style and class like you won’t believe. He’s cool and cleaver under the harshest situations. And he’s always in the harshest situations. No one can spy, kill, drink, and save Britain and look as cool and James Bond 007.

The Cobra Commander, one of the main villains of the G. I. Joe universe. He is the ruthless leader of a terrorist military group called Cobra. With Cobra as his weapon and with connections all over the world, Cobra Commander aims to take the whole world. Yup, he aims pretty high. The Commander is the main opponent of the American army unit G. I. Joe. He started, like most from the G. I Joes, as a doll (Action Figure! Action Figure! That’s what I said) but later took the staring villain place in the G. I. Joe comic books and cartoon shows.

Cobra Commander wears a blue military uniform with either a blue helmet with its face guard all the way down or a full mask (save for two eye holes). Either way, his face is always hidden, even from his own men. He goes throughout the world causing havoc and chaos. He has been the man behind many country’s uprising and government takeovers. Cobra Commander is ruthlessly known for kidnapping scientist and forcing then to create his doomsday weapons (as all good villains should) and making alliances with terrorist cells and weapons dealers.

The Commander is a tactical genus. He expects perfect loyalty from his men and treats them as though they are all expendable. Cobra Commander doesn’t disguise his villainess, he knows he’s evil, and he uses that image. He does whatever it take to get what he wants without any thought about anyone else’s wellbeing. All these things make him a great villain.

Character flaws? In the animated series he seemed like a stupid villain. He just did dumb things, only knew how to yell, and didn’t seem menacing at all. Or is it that we love him because of the dumb voice of his? Also, it might could as a flaw that his origins is that he was once a car salesman, now that’s evil. But that too is impressive, going from car salesman to most ruthless terrorist in the world.

Aslan

Aslan is definitely worthy of being a top hero. He is a mystical Lion king in C. S. Lewis’s children’s book series “The Chronicles of Naria”. Naria is a magical land where talking animals, dwarves, gnomes, and fauns, and men live in peace, for the most part. Aslan is a god like creator-lion that created their world (he sang it into existence, also in the series he created all other worlds including Earth but he used other names in these other worlds), and he watches over the world. When it is in danger, he summons children from our world to aid it. He helps the children on their quest but for the most part he just guides the world along from his home in another world.

Aslan is described as a large lion. He is so powerful that his very presence is filled with majesty. The books say that if one would just look at him that being would be filled with fear, awe, and joy. Unless you’er evil, then his presence would fill you with ultimate dread and horror. But if you stuck around long enough to befriend him, then you see him as the most wonderful thing in the world and a good friend, though he can still a roaring lion.

He is all-powerful and untamed. He goes and does as he pleases, which, fortunately for us, is for the good of the world. He could solve all Naria’s problems in an instant but he prefers just to aid them in helping themselves. He is bound only by one thing, his father (a being referred to as the Empire-Over-The-Sea) and his father’s laws.

Which brings me to my next point. Aslan is heroic. Once when a boy from our world belonged to the enemy due to the law of Aslan’s father. So the only thing Aslan could do is offer his own life to spare the boy. But being the powerful beast he is, he simply rose himself back to life (now that‘s power), played with some kids, then killed his enemy by mauling (ouch). Heroic is hardly does him justice. He is noble, kind, and good. He is the king.

Aslan has every attribute of being a hero. He is honorable, loving, and self-sacrificing. His power and might is literally unmatched. This mighty lion is at home on this list of heroes.

You think this is the year 2007 (or + # of years past this post). You think you are looking at a monitor reading one of the greatest blogs of all time. The truth? This is indeed a great blog but you are really hooked up to a machine which is sending signals to your brain telling you your in this world. You and the entire human race hooked up to this one world. That’s right, the future internet (I wonder if my blog is still around?). You are hooked up to a faked world so that robots can use your body as a battery. That’s right, the largest MMO of all time. The Matrix.

Which make me wonder, why didn’t the Machines in the movie the Matrix just tell us the truth and give the matrix a level up system

Back to the eleventh villain.

Agent Smith is the main villain of the series the matrix and main nemesis of Neo. In the first movie, he was an agent of the matrix. An agent's mission is to delete (that’s means kill, kids) people that are unplugged from the matrix as well as delete rogue programs that have broken away from the main matrix system. Smith was one of the leaders of these agents. He even seemed to have the authority to order sentinel robots (killer robots. He gave the order to attack in the first movie.) in the real world.

Smith is as cold as one could get. He is only a computer program but he is still evil. Incapable of any form of kindness or mercy, an agent will watch, pursue, and kill someone with precision and cold blood. Yet Smith was colder and more evil than the rest. He hated humans, he hated their matrix prison, and he even hated his own existence as a program to take care of their prison. He could quickly lose his temper and act out of a rage. Yet he was for the most part self controlled and unemotional, Though at times he can be sly and overly cocky.

In the second two movies he became a exile program though that was just a title, he never really ran from anyone, it was the other way around. After being defeated by Neo, he became a computer virus rather than a program. He could copy himself on anything linked to the Matrix, making more and more of himself all over the Matrix. He also became more and more powerful making, thought their were thousands of himself, one Smith as powerful as Neo. He threatened not only the lives of every human and program in the Matrix but every human and machine in the world. He was motivated by one sinister goal. To destroy everything.

The Flash

That’s right, the Flash. The Flash is a name carried by a DC Comics superhero that has super speed as a power. There have been four superheroes that have held the name of the Flash; Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen. Each had their own different origin, Jay breathing in chemicals, Barry and Wally were exposed to chemicals that were hit by lighting, and Bart was born with the powers. Yet they all have the relative same powers, they can move, think, and react at super speed.

The Flashes speed surpasses even Superman and they can do odd things with their speed. They can walk on water, vibrate their bodies to walk through solid objects, and create tornadoes. Barry, the fastest flash, traveled so fast that he became pure energy, traveled back in time, saved the day, and died in the process. Bart could not only read at super speed, he could remember everything he reads.

So why did the Flash make 12th place? Well first off he is very well known throughout the DC Comics. His power are awesome, come on, you know you would love to have that power. Each one had his own attitude; other than the usual here to save the day boy scout, most of the flashes had a punch line while they fought. Also they were considered one of the most powerful forces in the Justice League. And finally, he was the favorite character in the Justice League animated series. There he was the comic relief of the show making him a favorite of some of my friends. In fact, while I was asking someone about why the Flash was high on her list she simple replied that in the show he could make tornadoes. Even with all the other reason, apparently making tornadoes was a good to make the list.

The King Pin

Wilson Fisk is a short chubby legitimate business man in New York City in Marvel Comics. Or is he? He is always in New York City and he is in Marvel Comics, but he is no legitimate business man. He is really the King Pin, the head of New York’s Mafia with criminal ties all around the world. He is a criminal master mind that rules all, or most, of New York’s criminals. His team of lawyers keep him from getting a criminal record and they retain his business man appearance

He usually wears a expensive white coat, smokes cigars, and walks with a diamond cane. He looks like a fat guy and weighs around 400 + pounds. Though this, like his fake life, is a misconceptions. He has no super powers but most all of his 400 + pounds pure muscle. He also is a great street fighter. With these traits he can match such superhero’s such as Spider-man or Daredevil.

So why did the King Pin make the list? First off he is a genius who runs all of New York’s underground. He provides a great foe for Spider-man, Daredevil, and other Marvel superheroes. He uses his mind as his greatest weapon like all great villains should but is perfectly capable of fighting his foes hand to hand. The King Pin is one of the greatest evil mob bosses of all time.

Cloud Strife

Range: 12th to 5th place

Cloud Strife is the main hero of one of the most popular RPG games Final Fantasy 7. An X-military soldier turned mercenary, Cloud was hired to join a group of anti-government freedom fighters. Cloud was a reluctant hero that seemed to be far more skilled then others on the team. At first he was a bit cold hearted but eventually he became the leader of this band of outlaws.

But Cloud wasn’t who he thought he was. He thought he was part of an elite group of military force called SOLDIER with a man named Sephiroth. When Sephiroth found his true origins and went berserk, Cloud tried and failed to stop him from destroying a town. But the truth was that he was just a minor soldier that was caught in the middle between Sephiroth and his true SOLDIER partner Zack. After the incident, Cloud was captured by the government and experimented on. After his and Zack’s escaped (and Zack’s death) Cloud took on Zack’s memories and was used by Sephiroth as a puppet. But in the end Cloud found the strength to defeat Sephiroth.

So why do we like Cloud? Well the game was fun but the character had a few flaws. First off, he was no who he claimed to be. It was cool playing an x-elite soldier but then you had to figured out he was a fraud. Second he was used by Sephiroth. Sephiroth used the experiments that happened to Cloud to mess up his memory and take control of him. Cloud gave Sephiroth the very tool he needed to destroy the world. And finally, during the game, Cloud had to cross-dress to get into a certain area.

So why do we like this cross-dressign fraud? Because he’s cool. His attitude during the game was that of a cool and experienced fighter (except when he lost his control to Sephiroth). The very things he did were cool, wore black, rode a motorcycle, snowboarded and fought with a monster-huge sword (the Buster Sword). Though he failed often in the story, he always tried to make an amends for his mistakes. Even in future story lines, Cloud still can’t fully forgive himself for letting Aerith die. Yes he had a few flaws but a true hero has to rise above his fallbacks. Cloud found the strength to rise above all the obstacles and lead a team to save the world

13th Villain

Ganondorf

Ganon or Ganondorf is the main villain in the video game series Legend of Zelda. Though he wasn’t in every game, when he does show up it means bad news. He severs as the arch nemeses for the series hero, Link. Dreaded by all, Ganondarf is a evil warlord that threatens all that live in the area of Hyrule and sometimes beyond. He is dark and mysterious, usually making his evil plans in secret; Ganondorf’s caries an evil and maniacal presents and is usual overly powerful.

Ganondorf’s origins vary from game to game, he usually is a warlord or a lord of thieves. His goals also vary but always consist of gain power over everything or taking revenge on the people that have stopped him in the past (or their descendents). His ultimate goal is to gain the whole Triforce, the ultimate power in all of Hyrule. In a game, he would either hide and plan in secret, revealing himself in the end when his plans have come together, or kick everyone’s butt the entire game until Link finally gets the power to defeat him (usually through a great and difficult battle). After being defeated, Ganondarf manages to find a way to come back in next game.

A great game series needs a great villain, and Ganondorf gives Legend of Zelda that villain. He is pure evil and pure power. He rocks because he can pull off the feeling of being your arch enemy. As you play the game you know he is evil and you know he’s out to get you.

Character flaws? He seemed to gain a few pounds in Wind Waker.

Steve was the son of Irish immigrants and was born weaker then normal children. He became an adult at the same time World War 2 started. He wanted to join the fight against the Nazis but the military said he was too weakly built to join the US army. So instead he signed up to be a test subject for the US military (Now that’s devotion! Not that I would do that with our currant government, but this was back then that rocked). After some extreme training, under his weakness, Steve was picked to be the first soldier to go though Operation Rebirth. A scientist code named Abraham Erskine created a Supers-Soldier serum which would transform a person to the perfect physical form. When Steve was injected, he turned into the perfect soldier. His physical performance was above normal in all areas with heightened durance, flexibility, awareness, and senses.

After the project worked on Steve, Erskine was killed be an Nazi assassin. Since Erskine only had the serum in his head, it was lost forever. Only Steve Rogers would be transformed to the super-soldier. Steve Rogers vowed to defend the America people and joined the war as Captain America. He wore the whole superhero suit including a mask only the design on his suit was based on the American Flag and he used a shield as his main weapon. He fought well against the Nazis and became famous quickly. His presence upped the soldiers’ moral and the government used his image to help recruit soldiers.

At the end of the war, Captain got stuck in a new type of submarine that froze deep in the North Atlantic Ocean. The ice froze him and preserved him (with the help of the super-soldier serum that he took) for decades. Decades later, the Avengers, a Marvel superhero team, found him and unfroze him. The Captain joined the Avengers and later became the team leader. He uses his enhanced strengths, skills, and years of fighting experience to match the super traits of his new found teammates.

Captain is cool because he represents all that is good about this country. He fights solely for peace and freedom with no hidden agendas. He is honorable and respectable. The Captain is also liked because of his fighting style. He is only enhanced, he does not have amazing super powers so he has to use his skills to fight (I mean come on, anyone who can take out a whole squadron of soldiers with only a shield and his fists is awesome). He also uses military weapons like guns and grenade but he does is with such skill that impress reader.

Another reason Captain America rocks is because he fights for what he believes in and knows is right, not what he is ordered to do. He is often found arguing with his superiors (Nick Fury). He fights for the American people, not the American government. Don’t Believe me? What is he doing now? In the currant Marvel story Civil War, the US government wanted to implant chips into all superheroes so that they can be monitored. Captain America thought it was against the American rights and left the military and Avengers to fight against it. For freedom? Against chip implants? Captain America, you truly are our hero.

Venom

Venom, not the poisonous substance, the Spider-Man villain and a Hero/Villain in Marvel Comics. Who is Venom? Venom is referred to as anyone who wears the venom symbiote suit (mainly Eddie Brock). Because I never really heard about the other venoms (Angelo Fortunato and Mac Gargan) I will be referring mainly to Eddie Brock’s Venom. The ‘suit’ is a symbiotic being that looks like black oil or slime, it can cover a person like a suit and increase that individual’s abilities and give him the power to alter his/her appearance. But the dark side is the symbiote will eventually attach to the person permanently, not only the person, but his/her mind. It will drive the person mad and very violent.

Spider-Man found the Venom symbiote on a world called Battleworld, he used it as armor and to enhance his spider powers. When he came back to earth, he noticed that the suit won’t come off and was turning him into a dark violent monster. Spiderman fought with the suit and used its weakness of sound (Also note that fire is another weakness of Venom) to separate the symbiote. This angered the venom suit and it searched for a different host. He found that host with someone else who hated Spider-Man, a man named Eddie Brock. Thus a new villain was born, one that hated Spider-Man will all his being. A crazy villain with no concern for others. Venom.

Since the Symbiote was once joined with Spider-Man, Venom has all Spidy’s powers only much more enhanced. This made him one of Spider-Man’s most feared foes.

Venom was so popular that Marvel eventually made him somewhat of a hero. Venom (Brock’s Venom) enjoys killing people, but after he makes his peace with Spider-Man, he becomes a protector of the innocent. Also an killer of whose he finds guilty. Venom now takes pleasure in killing those who harm the innocent.

But he wasn’t voted hero was he, or perhaps the fact that he is also a ‘hero’ makes him one of our favorite villains. All, or most anyway, other forms of Venom have been evil but there was a good side of Brock’s Venom no matter how twisted it was. Venom rocks because his very presence is menacing. He just looks like a monster and killer. Also the fact that he had the same power of Spider-Man made him look awesome. There are many other reason Venom is a great villain of one of our favorite and most remembered Spider-Man characters.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Who are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT)? Well, they’re four young adult metamorphosed shinobi testudines or exactly what they sound like. After four small turtles fell into the sewers of New York City, they got into some green ooze that transformed them into walking-talking infants (oh and it made then human size, or at the time, infant size at the time). An adult rat, named Splinter or Master Splinter, also mutated with them. This rat was a former pet of a ninja master so the rat new the ways of the ninja. The Splinter (now walking, talking and ‘old human’ size) became the turtles master and father. He taught the turtles the ways of the ninja and when the turtles were old enough, teenage, they secretly defended the city from evil.

Since they were turtles, they couldn’t interact with the outside world. They remained in the sewers only coming out at night to fight crime and eat pizza. Unlike ninjas we’ve seen before, these turtles acted more like teenagers and related to human teen popular culture. For instance they liked to skateboarding, listen to music, cracking jokes, make fun of each other, and eating pizza. The turtles weren’t only rockn’ ninja (and ninja are rockn’) they were also both cool and humorous. They also liked pizza.

Splinter named the four turtles after famous artists and each turtle wore a different color ninja mask and carried his own different ninja weapon.

Leonardo was, for the most part, the leader of the team. He took being a ninja very seriously, more than his brothers, and spent his time practicing. Yet he still had his own sense of humor. He wore a blue mask and had two swords (katana) as a weapon.

Raphael was the anti-hero of the team. He was rude most of the time and had a bad attitude. He was the lease merciful when it came to fighting and often disobey his orders. He wore red and carried two sai.

Michelangelo was the joker on the team. He took everything lightly and made jokes in almost any situation. He was generally the comical relief. He wore orange and usually carries two nunchakus.

Donatello was the brains of the outfit. He was the teams scientist and often invented things for the team. Though he two had a good sense of humor. He wore purple and carried a bo-staff. (Note: Don was my personal favorite because he was smart and had a bo-staff. Also because my siblings always chose to play the other turtles when we played TMNT as kids.)

The Turtles were popular in comic books, cartoon television show, movies, toys, and video games (also they were in Japanese Mangas and were in at least two anime episodes). I think I mentioned all the major reasons the turtles are cool. They were hip as well as funny. And most of all, they were modern day teenaged ninja, ninja are cool as it is, but teenager ninjas in New York are even better. The TMNT are also cool because they liked pizza.

The second Doctor Who villain on the list, the Dalek are a worthy foe for the Doctor. The Dalek originated from a race called Kaled that mutated while they were in a Nuclear, Chemical, and Bio war with the Thal. An evil Kaled scientist named Davros re-mutated his race’s cells into a being that was mostly a brain then put each of them in a small tank-like dome. This Done was their travel machine that hovered, the only ‘limbs’ were weapons or a mechanical arm. Thus this tank like race was born, the Dalek (or you could go by the original origin in which case the Dalek created themselves after a short nuclear war).

The Dalek tank is a one-Dalek-army. Nearly invincible (don’t bring your M-16, bring the C4) each Dalek has its own high-powered blaster weapon and other weapons. They has various sensors all around their dome. The Dalek can hover though air and space, create its own force field, and hack into any computer. The Dalek race, and each Dalek, is highly intelligent and their technology is high enough to travel time.

There are no individuality in their race., each Dalek is like the other. They just keep cloning more Dalek and making more travel-machines-tanks (or make their slaves do it for them). They have only one emotion, hatred for everyone who is not a Dalek (also, the Doctor said that they later learned a new emotion. Because the Doctor continually defeated them, they learned fear. Fear of him). The whole race is brought together for one propose, take over the universe and exterminate everything in it except themselves. And they’re very good at what they do.

The Dalek are feared throughout time and space. Their cold inhuman nature and appearance makes them a great villain. They give a creepy atmosphere wherever they are (or a humorous one, either one is ok). Even the Doctor knows to run (not retreat mind you, he does win. He’s the Doctor) when the Delek approach. Another reason they rock is because they are cunning. Usually they will mask their presences until they are ready to invade. Even though they are not in any human form, they are still smart enough to recruit other life forms to aid them (until their usefulness has ended) and have secret operations and secret bases. They calculate their moves wisely and strike when victory is assured. Their craftiness, malice, and creepiness makes them the most popular villain in the series.

16th Hero

That’s right, Son Goku. Son Goku, or Goku for short, is the main character in the anime/manga series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT (My friend says that GT stands for “Get Toriyama” because GT was horrible until they got the original creator, Akira Toriyama, to start writing again). All Goku wants in life is to be the greatest fighter of all time but he has a kind heart and is willing to help or defend others. He isn’t every smart and can’t understand the simply things of life (as a kid he couldn’t tell the difference between men and women. As an adult it took him time to make sure that 16 - 1 = 15). All he knows is how to study and train in marshal arts. As his studies grew they included weird arts that have to do with one’s life force or ki. These abilities included increase one’s strength, going super speed, fire energy blasts, and even fly.

Later he learned that he wasn’t human but was in fact an alien called a Saiyan. He was sent to destroy the earth as a kid but instead became kindhearted. After defeating other Saiyans to defend earth, Goku fought one super being after another, becoming stronger and stronger. At the end of the series he was powerful enough to destroy a planet if he wanted to (unfortunately, so could some new enemies).

Why is Goku a cool hero? Well one might argue that he isn’t because the series he is in is long and never to the point (3 - 15 episodes just talking and 5 - 25 episode just on one fight) but he originated in a Japanese comic, or manga, which had a faster pace to it. Goku is cool because of his power, wouldn’t you like to be powerful enough to make craters in the earth just by sneezing? Another reason is that he just has heroic qualities. One is his kindness but another in his mercy (which is related to his stupidity). You could destroy his home planet, a whole race right in front of him, and his best friend and he will still have mercy if you beg him (Freeza). Finally, he rocks because he is not that bright. His original stories were comedies based on the fact that he can fight but doesn’t know how the world works (he though a marriage was a kind of food). This comedy followed his entire career.

Have you ever looked around at the world and pondered that it would be a better place if you were in charge of it? Do you stay up every night with another dork friend and devise new ways to dominate the world? Do you think you are a talking white mouse? Then chances are that you have heard about Pinky and the Brain. Pinky and the brain are two genetically altered lab mice with a goal, take over the world! They were one of the very funny cartoon segments in the show Animaniacs but was so popular that the two mice got their own television show. Brain was voiced by Maurice LaMarche and Pinky was voiced by Rob Paulsen.

Brain is super intelligent and can devise a new world dominating plan every night and invent almost anything he can think of (as long as he has the funding). Pinky is a cheerful yet mostly insane mouse who aids Brain, even though Pinky doesn’t have a clue what is going on. Together they make a hilarious world dominating duel. Though the Brain usually hacked a good yet humorous (example: become a country singer to brainwash the whole world) plot to take over the world, Pinky’s insanity and randomness usually makes to two fail, right before they were about to succeed. With no feelings hurt (maybe a punch or two) the two mice decide to try the next night.

How can you hate two lab mice who try to take over the world? Since they try to dominate the world, they made it on the villain list, but they are not evil. They didn’t want to hurt anyone to badly, they just wanted to rule the world. And is that so wrong?

17th Hero

Aragorn

Lets face it, our currant leaders are sponsored by and serve billionaires. For a long time we have not had an honest and noble leader. A lot of us wonder what it would be like to have a leader who was honorable and had the peoples interests in heart. Even thought he was a fictional character, Aragorn had those qualities. Unless you thought those small hobbits were the main characters in J. R. R. Tolkein’s books “The Lord of the Rings”, Aragorn was the main hero of the trilogy. Or maybe Boromir but that is another argument. In the Lord of the Rings, Aragorn was the heir to the thrown of the great country Gondor, but because his ancestor failed the kingdom (and the world, Middle-earth, in general), Aragorn was afraid that he, too, would fail as well. So instead he rejected the opportunity to take his rightful place and became a ranger under the name Strider. He roamed around the world keeping a close eye at the evil at hand. When the time came, he decided to help four hobbits on their quest to destroy the one ring that held the power of the most evil creator in their world, Sauron. When the hobbits broke away from the group, Aragorn got caught up in the struggle over Middle-earth and he was the only one who could save his people and unit Gondor. Aragorn fought his fears and lead his people from the certain doom to victor.

Aragorn has the characteristics of a true hero and a great king. He cares for his comrades and puts his life on the line to protect them, always putting others before himself. He amkes wise decisions quickly in times of danger and stands for what was right despite objections. Aragorn is both kind and stern. He fought his fears and succeeded where his ancestors failed.

Other reasons Aragorn rocks? Well being a ranger is cool enough as it is. Also, in the movie where he was played by actor Viggo Mortensen, he was seemed to be able to chop of an orcs head in the middle of battle with ease. And lets not forget that he stole the heart of an elf chick.

17th Villain

The Master

The Master was one of the major villains in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who and one of the few men almost as smart as the main character, the Doctor. Like the Doctor, he is a renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. The difference between them is the Doctor explores the universe, the Master tries to take it over. His original goal in life was to be the ruler on the universe and destroy the Doctor. His vessel was a TARDIS that could change its form to look like any surrounding. The TARDIS can travel both time and space. The master has the ability to control minds and can create various weapons including a weapon that can turn people into dolls, killing them (also humiliating them). The Character was played by the British actors Roger Delgado, Peter Pratt, Geoffrey Beevers, and Anthony Ainley.

Time Lords can regenerate twelve time every time they are critically injured, but the Master was on his last regeneration. So after Roger Delgado role as the master, the master’s goal changed. His new goal was to keep himself alive at all cost and to even gain immortality. He would do anything for this cause, even destroy an entire planet. Now that’s evil and not to mention a bit selfish.

The master was sly and suave but still manipulative, murderous, and mad (both pissed and mad as in an evil mad scientist). The ability to be both evil and charming is a quality of a great villain. Another reason the master is cool is that he could go toe to toe against the Doctor in a battle of wits. Like I said earlier, not too many people in the universe can do that.

Character flaws, Anthony Ainley’s Master was a bit over the top in being the mad scientist (a bit too much “Whahahahahahaha!”). Also, only fans of the series have really heard of him. As you can see, I know fans of the series.

18th Hero

Green lantern

One of the most powerful forces in the DC Comic universe. The Green Lantern refers to anyone who wields a green Power Ring. This ring gives the user the power to emerge green energy in almost any form he/she chooses. This green energy can take the form of a powerful energy blast or take any solid form (like a weapon or a force field). It can do almost anything including creating wormholes to travel the universe or surround one's allies in a green shield. Its only limited by the willpower and imagination of the user, though it does have a power limit that can be replenished by a green lantern (hence the name) that each one has.

The rings were created by the Dark Lord... oops, wrong ring, I mean the Guardians of the Universe in an attempt to bring order and justice to the universe. They then gave the rings to people that were noble enough and had enough willpower to wield them. After a Green Lantern dies, the ring will seek out a new noble master. The Guardians direct the Lanterns to bring order and peace to their sector of the galaxy. When the Green Lanterns are together, they are referred to as the Green Lantern Corp.

The Green Lanterns of earth included Allan Scott, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, and Jade. Others from earth also wore the ring but only had it for a short time.

Why is the Green Lantern cool. Well for one, he/she is a very powerful force. Together, the Green Corp is almost unstoppable. Green Lantern ranks as one of the most powerful members of the Justice League; right up there with Superman. Another reason is that his powers are a bit different than the usual Flying + Super strength. Instead of just flying, he surrounds himself in a green force field and takes off or he might summon a plane, bird, or even dragon (All green of course) and have them fly him somewhere. That brings me to my niext point, Lantern is cool because he is unlimited in his power and fighting style. Not only that, he is unlimited in character. Because there are more than one of them, you can choose which Lantern you like best or the one you relate to the most. They are also not limited to earth stories or earthling characters. The Green Lanterns travel the universe taking us to new worlds. (and now for the overstatement of the post. I need it to bring this to a conclusion.) The Lanterns are as unlimited as the universe itself. (see, a good close.)

Flaws in the character? Their powers are weakened by the color yellow. The color Yellow? What kind of stupid weakness is that?

18th Villain

Frederick Charles Krueger (Freddy Krueger)

Freddy Krueger, one of the most feared villains from the horror movie genre, was the murdering demon in the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. He appeared as a man with a burnt face who wore a fedora, a trench coat, and a striped sweater; and let’s not forget his glove with a blade on each finger. Freddy was played by the actor Robert Englund.

In the 60’s, Frederick Krueger murdered some of his neighbors and their kids on his home street of Elm Street, town of Springwood. The neighbors that survived took revenge on Krueger and burnt him alive. But after his death, demons gave him the power to continue his reign of blood. He had the power to make dreams into reality (die in the nightmare he created = die in real life) and he is powered by people’s fear of him. Freddy vendetta is against the descendants but will kill for sport as well or anyone who tries to get in his way. He attacks a person in their dreams making him impossible to escape from.

The fact that Freddy can kill you in you dreams makes him a scary monster and one of our favorite villains. Also, unlike others from the genre, he seems intelligent and manipulative. Other killers from horror movies just wait in the dark and stab people with little or no thought to it. Though this might be scary, Freddy usually has a plan of attack. Remember he needs to get people to believe in him before he is powerful enough to attack. The idea the Krueger has a plan to get you makes him even more frightening.

I was suprised to see him infront of Liquid Snake and the Borg at first. I thought thoughs two would be considered cooler villains. But Krueger is generally more well known and a favorite in the horror movies. Dispite what I think (which is inverse) the people have spoken, Krueger is a better and cooler villain the Liquid and the Borg.

Spike Spiegel is the cool main character in the hit anime series Cowboy Bebop. It takes place in the future where the planets have been colonized. Born on Mars and a former mafia agent, Spike now works as a bounty hunter, or, as they are called in the future, a cowboy. He flies around the solar system on a small ship called the Bebop.

Spike is a man of many talents; which include marshal arts that can take out a group of guards with little effort. His marshal art is based around high-powerful kicks. He also is good with the slight of hand that helps him pick pockets. Spike can pilot a fighter jet with exceptional skill. Another talent worth mentioning is if marksmanship. Spike can shoot his way out of most situations even highly outnumbered and out gunned.

Why is he cool? Because….. He is cool. The definition of cool. It just seems to be one of his dominate qualities. And I don’t mean cool as in school jock who picks on nerds for fun; I mean cool as in laid back and not give a crap about what anyone less thinks of you. He is relaxed even to the point of sometime being lazy. He is cool under the toughest situations (except when Julia is involved). Though he can lose his temper when things don’t go his way, or when someone just betters him. When he loses it he is funny. When he has it together, he makes his decisions with his gut and follows through despite the odds.

19th Villain

The Borg

“We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender you ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.” -The Borg (Star Trek: First Contact.)

I know the Borg are not one person but I posted in the rules I stated that races in science fiction will count as villains. You might also note that the Borg had the same points as Liquid Snake, so I had a few friends vote who would win (I did this with all the ties) and the Borg out did Liquid. Yes they are both cool, but liquid wanted to start a war, the Borg want to assimilate the universe. Plus the Borg would walk all over Liquid even if he was piloting Rex. Also the Borg think as one person.

Who are the Borg? They are a cybernetic race from the series Star Trek. They go throughout the universe conquering every race they could find. They conquered by turning people into one of the Borg through injecting nanoprobes, or "assimilate" them. In this same way they can assimilate ships, computers and other technology. The Borg have a collective conscience and share all the knowledge with each other. When they assimilate someone or something, they take all the knowledge and technology. In this way, they advance their own technology far beyond all other races. They are cold hearted and reason only like robots. Their only thought is to conquer and assimilate others. Their name is feared by all races in the universe.

In other words, they are a cool and frightening villain. If one of their ships enters your territory, you send every one of your space vessels to try to fight them off. They are that powerful. If a few enter your ship or planet, they can assimilate your friends and turn them against you. They could assimilate a leader and know your nations secrets. They are one race of people you pray you never meet.

Can’t have this event without a pirate involved, and who else would make the list, Jack Sparrow? Heck no! We’ll have a man who with a name that no one will know how to say the first time, or every time if you’re a character in the series (Thriftweed? Gorbush? Threekwood?) Guybrush Threepwood is that pirate.

Guybrush Threepwood is a mighty pirate. So mighty that he can hold his breath for ten whole minutes (his one skill). He is the character you play in an adventure games series called Monkey Island. Threepwood is a man who dreams of being a mighty pirate, but he has no skills for the job what so ever. Other than his long breath skill, Guybrush must rely on his wit and smart-aleck speak. Like all adencture games he must talk his way out of everything or use odd objects to do odd things (what good is a rubber-chicken-with-a-pulley-in-themiddle anyway?).

His the stories, Guybrush falls for a beautiful pirate-governor Elaine Marley. Luckily for him (or Unluckily), he has plenty of chances to prove himself because a ghost-zombie-demon-pirate LeChuck LeChuck keeps kidnapping her.

Why do we like him? His witty comebacks. The oddness and dorkiness he has all the while keeping his misplaces ego. He can fit more items in his pants than even Solid Snake. His insult sword fighting skills and the ability to get the girl even though he is a idiot and misfit.

20th Villain

So it begins. It starts. It is now happening. Through pain. Through tribulations. Through hard labor. Through endlessly nagging and bothering my friends and sometimes even enemies. The project is afoot. It is beginning. Starting. Developing. Commencing. Launching. Dawning. It is even opening. Now is the time for:

TOP TWENTY HEROES AND VILLAINS

I’ll start the post with the villain who made it to the twentieth place. Though at the bottom He still made it as one of the best. The twentieth, but still one of them.

And the Twentieth place for greatest villain goes to:

Liquid Snake

With a total of 37 points

The number of people that voted for him was 3

He ranged from 11th place to 4th place

That’s right, Liquid Snake. The villain for the popular video game (Or as some would call movie) Metal Gear Solid. His mission, his goal, his objective was the evil plot of…… well I don’t really know what he wanted but I know he was willing to nuke something to get it! Now that means business. For those who don’t know, He took over a an island in Alaska where they were making a state of the art nuclear equipped walking battle tank, call Metal Gear. Only one thing could get in his way! Those bloody launch codes. But being the clever person he is, he simply hatched a plan to manipulate his hero-twin-brother, Solid Snake, to activate the launch codes for him. The nerve.

That brings me to my next point, why is he cool? After Solid Snake beat his old man Big Boss, who could provide a worthy adversary. Why his own twin brother with a vendetta against Solid and the dead Big Boss. Liquid provided a cool foe for our hero to fight against.

Another reason Liquid was cool was that he was somewhat mysterious. In the beginning, you only knew he had a similar code name and face as Solid did. It wasn’t until the end that you figure out that the two were clones of Big Boss and Liquid’s “Good” genes were given to Solid to make Solid the best soldier of all time (or the other way around. Liquid thought he was the insuperior one.) This gave his a cool edge. Also you never new what he was really planning or what his true goal was (ok, he just wanted to out do his old man, and kill Solid Snake).

But for the most part, at least to me, Liquid Snake rocked because he was manipulative, cunning, and in charge. Anyone who could order around a bunch of misfits like Foxhound knows how to give an order. Every rockn’ killer on that team gave reverence to “The Boss”. He could toy with Solid more that the military + Naomi could. Liquid Snake always seemed to plan a head of our best, even in the Pentagon and CIA.

Finally, how many people could survive a helicopter crash, an exploding mech, a drop from a Mech, and a jeep crash (while taking bullet hits) all in the same night! In the end a virus killed him (no, not me) and even then he came back in the form of an arm!

Down sides to this character? He seemed to babble and whine on and on towards the end (Fine! I do enjoy the killing! Now won‘t you shut up!). He seemed way to British to be an American soldier. And the coming back in the form of Revolver Ocolot’s Arm was somewhat stupid.

Event Delays

The event is coming soon. Most of the scores have been added up with some interesting results (as well as obvious ones). “Why hasn’t it started yet?” you ask? To make a long story short (I’ll skip the gory fight between me and a dragon, no one wants to hear about that anyway.), a friend who lives across the state made a list and is trying to get it to me. Since he lives so far away I will give him until the end of this week to give me the list. The second reason the I haven’t started posting the project is because there were a few ties in the lists. I said that I would just choose who I liked best but since so many people turned in lists (15 to 16 people) I decided to have a few people vote on it. I’m thinking I’ll have my club vote on it but we don’t meet until Tuesday. That means unless I find an alterative way to voting the ties away, I won’t be able to start the event until Thursday the 15th (I’m not starting on Valentines Day).

The Deadline, still need one more

Last day to hand in lists is today. So far I have six, if I can get one more I will still post this project. If I had more this would turn out better but I will still post it if I can get more than six. A lot of people firsts seconds and thirds will be on the blog’s top twenty even if no one else voted for them but that can’t be helped if I get a small amount. If that would be the case then there will be interesting picks on the two top twenties.

Tomorrow it the Deadline

Tomorrow is the last day to hand in the pair of lists. I have four list handed in already. I was hoping for a larger amount but I will still make the top project if I can get more than six. That shouldn’t be too much of a problem since I can count on at least two more people to turn in the lists as well and others claim to be making their lists. My original goal was ten to twelve but over half a dozen will be enough. Then it will still be a collectives opinion.

Misconception of terms and other items.

I know I’ve been calling the Top twenty deal a “event” but I don’t think that’s the right term. Event didn’t sound right but I couldn’t think of a better what of saying it. Now I’m second guessing myself; I think a better term might be project. But since no one will care, I plan to use both terms.

Another misunderstanding would be that I will post the ultimate list right after all the points are collected. This will not be the case. Instead, I will post each place individually, alternating the two lists. I will start with the twentieth place and work my way up. Each post will have the next place in line and a brief writing on who that person is and why he was probably picked. Therefore you will not know the winner until the end. I will try to post five posts a week and I plan to start about mid February.

Rules for Top Hero and Villain Event

Ok, like I said before the next few months I will be posting the top twenty heroes and the top twenty villains. Sort of like a Blog event. Who will be in what place will be decide by everyone I know who is willing to pitch in. What each on us has to do is make our own two top lists. Here are the following rules that we will follow. I’d like to add that since this is just a small blog and nothing too important the rules are not to strict. Most of them are loose or vague rules. I am posting the rules so that readers will know that I did not just come up with the top twenty list on my own. There was a method to the madness.

Max and Min

Each up use must make two lists. One for our favorite heroes and one for there favorite villains. Each list must be put in order. That means that their first favorite must be in first, second in second, and so on. That means we need numbers or something that will show who is in what place. Each list must be at lease 10 places and can not go over 20 places. Again, the minimum for each list is 10 and the maximum is 20.

Points

From there each hero and villain will be given points to see who will make the blog’s list. Just to do be precise, I’ll list the how each points go.
1st place gets 20 points,
2nd = 19,
3rd = 18,
4th = 17,
5th = 16,
6th = 15,
7th = 14,
8th = 13,
9th = 12,
10th = 11,
11th = 10
12th = 9
13th = 8
14th = 7
15th = 6
16th = 5
17th = 4
18th = 3
19th = 2
20th = 1
I know I didn’t have to go through all that trouble but I did anyway. It was for clarity. Anyhow, every hero and villain will collect their points from each list. For instance, If Spiderman is 1st on one list and 14th on a second, he will get 27 points from the two list. If Doctor who is 4th on the one list and 7th on the second, he’ll have 31 points. Therefore Doctor Who will be higher in place than Spiderman with the two list. After all the points are collected the top scoring twenty from each type of list will make it to the ultimate list.

Ties

If two or more heroes of two or more villains tie after all the points are gathered, I get to decide who is higher than the other one. I know it seems unfair, but this is my blog and know one will care anyway. There shouldn’t be too many tie toward the top anyway. The exception is that I will not make that decision for the top three alone. There will be a small vote between friends.

This is about Fictional characters

By now many people would wonder who will count of these lists. For the most part I recommend fictional characters. There are a few exceptions I will make if my friends insist on it but for the most part these heroes and villains are going to be taken from stores. Stores? That means anything. Books, television, movies, comic books. I have the right to omit anyone I think does fit the requirements or the spirit of this event. I will not omit anyone just so my favorite people will make it, I’ll be fare, trust me. When I omit a person, that person’s points will be just skipped over.

No political, historical, or religious people

I don’t care what you think about him, George W. Bush will be omitted from both the hero and villain list. Any person from history won’t count. Any political figure from anywhere in the world will be omitted. Any religious leader or figure will be omitted. Family members, friends, and personal enemies also do not count. Most celebrities will be omitted. Some celebrates will count if enough of my friends vote for them but they must have risen to legend. One example is Chuck Norris. There is enough “myth” about him online that he counts as a legend. I recommend that people do no do this though. Remember I have final word on who counts and who doesn’t. To be safe just keep it fictional.

Recommendation for villains

I recommend that we make our villains list on villains that we like rather than villains or characters we hate. This is over the best villain, not the crappiest character. Don’t put anyone on the villain list just because you do not like that person.

Not crossing characters over

Another thing I might omit is if someone puts someone that is definitely a hero on the villain list or vise versa. Some people will count for both lists like Venom, he’s been known to be both a hero and a villain. But if Superman is on a villain list, he will be omitted. If Lex Luther is on the hero list, he will be omitted. Even though Lex has done some good things in his life, for the most part he was definitely a villain. Again, I get the last word on who counts or not. Tough.

Groups

Certain groups will be counted together. For instance, the whole A-team will probably be counted together. This is because some small groups, where the people are associated mainly with that group, can be a hero to some people or be a considered some character’s villain. The main rule is groups with 2 or 4 members. This means we are allowed to put groups 3 o 4 members in one place. Like 5th place can go to the A-team. I will decide what groups will be but together when I see how everyone voted. If a lot of my friends wrote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they will be grouped together for the contest. If none of my friends right Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but instead just list the individual members, I will not group them together. If I do, for example, decide the Fantastic 4 are going to be grouped and another list has the Thing as 6th place and the Human Torch as 11th, the higher place will be counted and the lower one will be omitted. I told you some of the rules a vague.

Races

Since some Sci-Fi stories villains are different so I must make the races rule. Certain races can be placed in one spot as long as they are regularly used as a common foe for the heroes with not specific members. In other words, as long as they are referred to by their race instead of their leaders. These races can be put in one place, like the Borg in 15th place. Other examples are the Dalek, the Cybermen, the brood, the Xenomorphs and the Predators.

Deadline

This list must be turned in by February the 1st to count. After that I will add up all the points and start posting both list from 20th place to 1st place.

Comments

If you are not one of my acquaintance and want to right up your own list for the event just write the two lists in the comments spot. To keep people from cheating, if there is lists on the comments that look alike or look similar to another list given to me, the whole list will be omitted. If you didn’t cheat and I omit your list I am sorry but I need to make sure that no one is taking an unfair advantage of this open invitation.

If there are any other rules that I forgot I will post it later.

those born unlucky

You’ve heard it said that some people are just born lucky. But if some people are just born lucky, are other people born unlucky? If so, would there be some sort of parallel between the number of lucky people and the number of unlucky people? An equilibrium of sorts, for everyone born lucky there must be someone born unlucky.

On that note, I just had the first two days of this semester. One of my good friends met a girl who literally just gave him her number, on the first day, in the first class, at about 8 in the morning. That’s a pretty good way to start the semester. My first two days of class? I hit my head twice, one each day, on the same pole. Now I could use this as evidence of my lucky equilibrium theory but lets be safe and just say I’m too stupid to avoid the pole the second time.

I know I’m supposed to post the rules of the up coming “event”, but I’ve been too busy with classes. I’ll try to get it done soon.

First Event

The Top Twenty Heroes and Villains!!!

This of course means the top twenty heroes AND the top twenty, two list, not one, two, double, 20 people on each of the two lists, 40 people in all, not 20, 20 heroes and 20 villains. Understand? I could make it more clear but I’m feeling too lazy.

Well, there might be more than 40 people on the lists. Some groups will be put together. The rules are someway vague. I'll post them soon.

These will be, for the most part, only fictional characters. It will be decided by a vote and point system done by some of my friends, associates, and myself. Rules will be posted shortly.

Greetings everyone bored enough to read this blog (you have my pity). Welcome to “Enter The Virus” where you will travel to the depths of the unusual and disturbing mind of a Dorki named the Virus. Brace yourself for ideas of sheer brilliance as well as post of complete and udder stupidity. Mostly the latter.

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, between genius and that lack therefore of. At the sign post ahead “Enter the Virus”!

This is my third attempt at a blog, the other two failed miserably; probably because I’m too lazy to post anything of importance. On that note, I’m off to play some f-zero!
